Rules & Forms

The Rockland Teen Center celebrates its 18th year of operation with the 2011-12 school year. As you may already know, the Teen Center and the Teen Center Advisory Board is strictly a volunteer organization. Advisory Board members contributed countless hours of their time to keep the center open the past 5 years after the retirement of Bill and Joanne McCormack who previously ran the center for 13 years. In order to keep the center open, we need parents to volunteer a minimum of one Friday or Saturday during the year. In that regard, on this year’s membership forms, parents are being asked to sign up for a minimum of one evening per school year to help supervise at the center. Please check your schedule and let us know when you can volunteer. You can schedule as far in advance as you would like. In addition to signing up on the membership form you may also email us at rocklandteencenter@yahoo.com.  You may also stop by the Teen Center some evening and let us know.

Please be advised that if we do not have the number of volunteers needed on any given Friday or Saturday night, the Teen Center will NOT open the doors. Please keep this in mind when dropping anyone off. We strongly suggest that you wait to be sure we have the number of people needed to open before dropping anyone off and leaving.

Thank you in advance for your support as the Rockland Teen Center re-opens for its 18th year.

From this packet, please sign and return (1) the membership form and (2) medical release form along with the $20 annual fee. Thanks.

IMPORTANT  FOR  INCOMING  6th GRADERS  ONLY !!

A parent must come with you when you turn in your registration form(s) and membership fee.

ROCKLAND TEEN CENTER/RULES & REGULATIONS

2011-2012

The teen center facility is open and available to all Rockland young people in grades 6 thru 12. Adult supervision is always present and a member of the Teen Center Advisory Committee is always at the facility. Local Police make periodic stops at the center each night. Parents and other adult community members are always welcome and are encouraged to stop in and observe the goings on.

Please note: all parents and other adults visiting the Teen Center must sign in before entering the Teen Center.

·                    Members should always have their current Teen Center ID card with them. If you are a paid member and forget your card, you will be required to pay $1 at the door. Anyone who has not purchased a new membership card by Nov 1st. will have to pay a guest fee of $3 to enter.

·                    No drugs, alcohol or smoking of any kind at any time either inside the building or on the surrounding grounds. Anyone attempting to gain entry who appears to be under the influence of drugs/alcohol will be turned away at the door and will be denied entrance. No food or drinks are to be brought into the teen center.

·                    The Teen Center Facility (including materials and equipment) must be respected at all times. Anyone identified as purposely defacing and/or damaging said property will be responsible for returning/replacing it in the condition in which it was found originally. If graffiti is discovered, the Teen Center will be CLOSED on the next scheduled night.

·                    Please respect all members and the property of others in attendance, keeping hands to yourself at all times. Use of abusive, obscene or profane language including racial, religious, or sexual references directed at other members in attendance will NOT be tolerated and may result in suspension of Teen Center privileges.

  •    Appropriate dress is expected.  Controversial clothing containing inappropriate      language (ie profanity, or of a racial, ethnic, sexual nature, etc.) which could be deemed offensive will not be permitted nor will clothing that is deemed overly revealing. Anyone breaking this rule will have the following options: (1) leave the Teen Center, (2) when appropriate, turn the offending piece of clothing inside out, or (3) put on a large cover up shirt which will be provided by the Teen Center for the evening.

·                    Any inappropriate or disruptive behavior will not be permitted in the center, on center grounds or at Teen Center sponsored events. Physical and/or verbal threats or the use of physical force against another member is prohibited. In the event of a fight at the center or on center grounds, the parties directly involved will be suspended indefinitely. In addition, all members of the grade(s) involved may be suspended for up to two weeks as determined by the advisory board.

·                    Emergency exits & fire extinguishers are for EMERGENCY USE ONLY! There is only one non-emergency door to enter & leave the Teen Center.

·                    Once members in grade 6 are at the center, they must remain there until 10:00 P.M. unless other arrangements have been made with an adult staff member and/or a parent or guardian has given permission for an early departure.  PLEASE BE ON TIME TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD.

·                    Members in grades 7-12 may leave the center before 10 PM, but they may not return again that night, unless arrangements have been made with an adult staff member before leaving the center.

·                    Please DO NOT arrive at the center early. If you are dropping off a member, please remain on the grounds until you are sure the Teen Center has opened its doors for the evening. Members SHOULD NOT hang around the center after signing out. Members, who are still on the grounds of the center (including the front area of the Community Center on Union Street) beyond 15 minutes of signing out, will be considered as loitering and parents and/or the police may be called.

The Teen Center hours are as follows: Fri & Sat evenings from 7-10 PM

·                    We are occasionally closed for special events, holidays or due to inclement weather, please check the local cable channel or log onto www.rocklandteencenter.org when in doubt. Also, if we do not have the minimum number of adults to supervise, WE WILL NOT OPEN THE DOORS. During football season or other special events, we sometimes have delayed openings.

·                    Teen Center members are allowed to bring ONE guest from in town or out of town NO MORE THAN 3 EVENINGS per month. Guests must check in, fill out a card with name, address, phone etc. and pay $3 per night. They must leave when their host leaves. Members are responsible for the behavior of their guests.

·                    As the Teen Center cannot function without volunteers, parents are expected to volunteer a minimum of one night per school year. Members whose parents/guardians fail to fulfill that requirement may risk their membership privileges the following year.

·                    Any member who is asked to leave the Teen Center and/or has been suspended due to inappropriate behavior must leave the grounds immediately.  Members in grades 6 will be held at the front desk and parents notified for pick-up. Please note: All suspensions are for an indefinite period of time. Depending on the nature of the suspension, the Advisory Board will decide when and if a suspended member may be re-instated. Members may appeal to the Board in writing or in person at a monthly board meeting if they want to question the suspension. In any case, a suspended member may not be on the grounds of the Teen Center/Community Center during hours of operation until he/she receives notice that he/she has been re-instated by the Advisory Board. Any suspended member on the Teen Center/Community Center grounds will be considered a trespasser and police will be notified. In addition, while the suspension is in effect, the member will not be permitted to attend or take part in any other activities run by the Teen Center including dances, trips, etc.

We encourage all Rockland young people to use and enjoy their teen center. We further encourage you to inform and invite your friends. However, we absolutely will not allow the negative actions of a few to jeopardize the existence of this program for the majority. Therefore, we reserve the right to suspend and/or revoke the membership privileges of any member(s) from the center at any time. Names of those banned will also be filed at the police station.

Please remember the Rockland Teen Center is for you to have fun and to be with your friends. Everyone is responsible for and will be held accountable for his/her actions.

HAVE A GREAT TIME!
